School & ECE cleaning
School cleaning sits between commercial office and clinical scope: high-touch surfaces all day, child-safe product registry, MoE police-vetting for all on-site staff, and a holiday-period rhythm where the deep-clean cycles compress into 2-3 weeks per year. Our partner teams cover primary, secondary, and ECE.

How school cleaning is priced
Schools are usually quoted as a fixed term-time monthly fee plus separate holiday deep-clean line items. Daily rate per sqm sits close to standard commercial (NZ$1.20-2.00 per sqm per month) because the labour intensity is offset by simpler finish-out than offices. Holiday deep-cleans typically run NZ$3-7 per sqm per cycle. For a 1,500 sqm primary school, expect NZ$2,200-3,800 per term-time month plus NZ$5,000-12,000 per holiday deep-clean cycle.
Vetting and compliance
- ● Police vetting Level 2 for every cleaner who has site access (mandatory)
- ● Children's Act 2014 worker-safety check on file
- ● Child-safe product registry — no bleach or strong solvents in occupied zones
- ● Cleaner identifiable on site (high-vis vest with provider logo)
- ● Health & Safety Plan filed with the Board of Trustees
Frequently asked questions
Can I have the same provider for term-time and holiday deep-cleans? +
Yes — and you should. Continuity reduces the briefing burden and means the provider knows where the unusual stuff is (gym mats, storeroom rotations, kapa haka costume storage).
Do early childhood centres need different protocols? +
Yes — ECE has stricter product rules (no bleach near play zones, all surfaces wiped with EWG-listed alternatives) and toy-disinfection cycles. The provider quotes ECE separately.
Who pays for consumables (toilet paper, hand soap)? +
Almost always invoiced separately at cost + 10-15%. Confirm the markup on the proposal.
Can the school office be cleaned during the day? +
Usually no — disruption to staff is the dominant factor. Most schools run after-hours from 4pm and finish before site security alarms set.
